Delta Queens coach, Peter Dedevbo has said his side will defend the women’s league title at the Super Six holding from October 18 to 25 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The Super Six billed for the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa is the last programme on the Nigeria Women's Professional League (NWPL) calendar that eventually decides the winners of the league.
The teams that have qualified for the final six are title holders, Delta Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, FC Robo, Bayelsa United, Pelican Stars and Cup holders, Rivers Angels.
Dedevbo said after his side failed to progress beyond the quarterfinal of the 2013 Federation Cup the Asaba-based side have resolved to turn to the Super Six for a silverware in the 2012/13 NWPL season.
“We’ve vowed not to end the season empty-handed after missing out in the Federation Cup, we’ve resolved to win the league shield.
“It was a minor mistake that caused us the chance of winning the Federation Cup but we’ve corrected the mistakes to ensure we don’t miss the league title.
“We’ve been in the dark since the regular season ended nothing said on the next step but now there is a date to work with but whether the date holds or not is a another ball game.
“Winners never quit and quitters never win, we’ll work hard to successfully defend the title.
“Our failure to win the Cup title has not brought any pressure on me, I know what is right and we’ll do the right thing at the right time to win the league shield.
“I know the six teams that qualified for the Super Six want to win but we won’t leave any stone unturned to ensure we win in grand style,” said the former Flamingoes coach to supersport.com.
Delta Queens are the reigning Nigerian women champions.
