Nigeria mauls Burkina Faso

Football | Super Eagles

Nigeria's Super Eagles recorded a resounding 4-1 victory over the Etalons of Burkina Faso in an international friendly played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Brown Ideye got Nigeria on their way to the win in the 17th minute with a well taken goal after a defensive mix up by the Burkina Faso defence who couldn't deal with an Obinna Nsofor through ball that caused panic in the visitors defence, which fell kindly for the Dynamo Kiev man to tap into an open net.

The Eagles continued to pile pressure on visitors as John Ogu tested the keeper in the 13th minute and Shola Ameobi, though playing as the lone man upfront did pretty well holding the ball up to bring Nsofor and Ideye into the game.
In the 20th minute, an Elderson Echiejile cross was nearly converted by Shola Ameobi but he was beaten to the ball the the Burkina Faso goalkeeper, and it was also the turn of Obinna Nsofor as he dummied three defenders but was clattered from behind as he was about to pull the trigger. Referee wasn't impressed and waved play on.

Burkina Faso also had a decent chance at goal but Austin Ejide was quick off the line to collect the cross.
Nigeria edged ahead when hard working midfielder Ogenyi Onazi dispossessed a Burkina Faso player in his half and feed Nsofor who released Ideye to chip past the keeper in the 45th minute for the second goal.
Burkina Faso nearly pulled one back in added time of the first half as the carved open the Eagles defence, but finishing let them down.

Nigeria edged ahead in the 53rd minute, when Shola Ameobi who was fed a fine through ball by Obinna Nsofor, buried beautifully for his first international goal for Nigeriain only his third cap.
Sunday Mba's introduction in the second half for John Ogu was the catalyst the Eagles needed to add more goals. His movement was causing all sorts of problems for the Burkinabe players.

Emmanuel Emenike came into the fray in the 54th minute to replace Obinna Nsofor who had a good game, and didn't waste time to score Nigeria's fourth of the day in 62 minute.
Stephen Keshi rang some changes that saw Uche Nwofor come on for Shola Ameobi and Efe Ambrose was also replaced by Solomon Kwambe. Two goal hero Brown Ideye.
Burkina Faso attacked in sprouts ,but they did catch the Super Eagles napping as some comical defending allowed the visitors to get through and get their consolatory goal in the 78th minute.
The game fizzled out as a contest as Nigeria was contented with knocking the ball round while Burkina Faso resulted to delay tactics to see out the game.
