History was made on Friday, as Timi Owoeye, a graduate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Akure, emerged inaugural winner of the SuperSport Follow Ya Mouth Pidgin Commentator Search, in Lagos.
The trio of Owoeye, Baba Kay and Ben Wakama made it to Friday’s programme, but Wakama eventually missed the final test.

After their final round of commentary, the judging panel composed of Deji Omotoyinbo, Chinedu Ani “Nedu” and Tega Onojaife named Owoeye as the winner of the Follow Ya Mouth Search, which kicked off with zonal preliminaries, in Port-Harcourt and Lagos, respectively.
Twelve contestants (six each from Port-Harcourt and Lagos) made it to the House in Lagos (called The Commentary Box), where they were groomed by seasoned industry practitioners like SuperSport Nigeria, Production Manager, Niyi Oyeleke and SuperSport Nigeria Head Commentator, Bowei Atama, amongst other.
Six contestants were initially eliminated at the first stage and three others were later dropped as the elimination process continued, in Lagos.
“I’m excited with the chance to work with Africa’s biggest sporting brand. It’s been an exciting year for me,” Owoeye said to SuperSport.com.
Owoeye was presented with his contract as SuperSport Pidgin commentator by SuperSport General Manager, West Africa, Felix Awogu.
Chairman of the League Management Committee, Hon. Nduka Irabor, witnessed the impressive event, in Lagos.
