Borussia Dortmund's German international defender Marcel Schmelzer is expected to be out for three weeks after a suffering a thigh injury in training, the club said on Saturday.
The left-back tore a fibre in the back of his left thigh during Friday's training for Saturday's Bundesliga match at home to Freiburg.
The injury will rule him out of Germany's final World Cup qualifiers against Ireland in Cologne on October 11 and Sweden four days later in Stockholm.
