Winger Douglas Chirambo, captain James Sangala, midfielder Chimango Kaira, substitute goalkeeper Owen Chaima, team doctor Levi Mwale and team manager Aubrey Nankhuni, among others, escaped with minors injuries in Dedza District, some 50 kilometres from the capital, Lilongwe.
The Flames members had touched down in Lilongwe en route to Blantyre from Nigeria, where they lost 2-0 to the Super Eagles, when the Sports Council bus they were travelling in veered off the road around Bembeke Stage.

“I am in deep pain now. I smashed by head against the window. I can only recall that the bus veered off its lane and hit something on the other end. Chirambo also received some bruises but the rest seem okay. We can only thank God that we are alive,” the Big Bullets midfielder Chimango Kaira told Supersport.com.
Coaches Tom Saintfiet, his assistants Patrick Mabedi and Eddington Ng’onamo travelled in a separate car from Lilongwe to Blantyre. The bulk of Malawi players are foreign based who played in Nigeria, hence they flew straight to their clubs.

The Flames are out of the running for a place at the 2014 World Cup following the defeat in Calabar.
FAM official Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the accident, saying the severity of the injuries would be established after medical check-ups.
“It would seem there was a tyre burst leading to the accident. Most of the players are complaining of chest pains,” he added.
