Warren Joubert beat Master Mangalazi on points at Carnival City near Brakpan on Thursday night.
Joubert, in his first fight in eleven months, faced an opponent who had won only two of his previous ten fights.
He was made to chase the back-pedalling Mangaladzi for almost the entire fight before winning the junior welterweight eight-rounder in a box-and-dine tournament presented by Manny Fernandes of BRD Promotions.
Joubert improved his professional record to 19-3-5, including 11 knockouts. Mangaladzi now stands at 2-8-1; 1.
Welterweight Jarred Silverman outboxed the promising Stone van Aswegen over eight rounds in what was billed as a grudge match.
Other results: Junior middleweight: Stanis Kulondi beat Vusi Bilankulu on points over 4 rounds.
Middleweight: Dowayne Combrink stopped Daddy Mpinga in the first round.
Super middleweight: Walter Dlamini beat Hansen Baloyi on points over 6 rounds.
Junior heavyweight: Deon Coetzee beat Jean Lutete on points over 6 rounds.
