American Ricky Fowler had six birdies on his last eight holes en route to an 8-under-par 63 on Thursday to take the early first-round lead at the Australian PGA.
With crowd favourite Adam Scott scheduled for an afternoon tee time, Fowler had the gallery firmly in his favour during his bogey-free round on the revamped Royal Pines resort course.
The US golfer started at the 10th and opened with five pars before making birdie on two of the next four holes before the turn.
"It was a good solid start," Fowler said. "A little bit slow on my front nine, but I just stayed patient and finally got a few things to go, made a couple of good up and downs."
Fowler said although the conditions were conducive to good scoring on Thursday morning, the situation could easily change.
"If the wind picks up this afternoon, like it started to pick up the last few holes, the course will dry out a bit and they'll play a little bit tougher, "Fowler said. "So tomorrow afternoon it's going to be a little bit different course than I saw this morning."

Australians Matthew Ballard (65) and Nathan Green (66) were near the top of the leaderboard with more than half the field still on the course.
Scott is making his first tournament appearance back home since winning the US Masters in April, the first Australian to do so. He was 1-under after six holes Thursday.
