Pillars reclaim their swagger

Football | Nigeria

The game had so much at stake but so few people saw it live. Yet thousands did on SuperSport. This was because it was behind closed doors as specified by the NPFL big wigs that were still very unhappy about how the initial encounter in week 31 unfolded with encroachment.
It was a ding dong affair initially with Enyimba surviving an early Pillars onslaught to start asking all the questions in the first half. Luckily for Pillars, their captain GK Theophilus Afelokhai had the game of his life coaxing out not one but four world class saves in the initial 45 minutes.

Pillars came out more aggressive in the second half with Rabiu and Gambo being more assertive and forcing the Aba back four to player lower and lower in their half. Again and again it was the Enyimba Goal keeper who was dusting himself off after making save after save. Especially one in the 65th minute off a Rabiu scud had everybody in the air.
Finally the goal came and it came in the very last minute of the game with relative ease. After three bounces that saw Pillars get each one, substitute Mannir Ubale’s header proved too much for Thomas and Pillars had won the game.
Pillars now have become the sole favorites’ to retain their championship crown.
