Ahmed Musa will not be a happy man if he does not finish the 2013/14 season as the top goal scorer in the Russia Premier League.
The Super Eagles winger made a barnstorming start to the season scoring five goals in his first seven league games of the season for army club, CSKA Moscow.
The 20-year-old notched up 11 league goals last term and having already garnered almost fifty percent of that total with less than a third of the season played, he explained the reasons behind his newly-found potency in front of goal.
“I will say it is hard work and the help of God. I hope I continue scoring more goals,” he exclusively told supersport.com.
Musa has not scored since August 30 when he netted once in CSKA Moscow’s 2-1 win over Amkar Perm at the Arena Khimki.
He now trails the league’s leading goal scorer, Danny by three strikes as the Zenith St Petersburg forward has already netted eight league goals this season.
Musa is however not bothered as he knows the race to finish at the summit of the top scorers’ standings is a marathon and not a sprint.
“I made a vow before the season that I will finish as top scorer in the Russia Premier League this season.
“I did not set a specific target as to the exact number of goals I will score in the league but the decision has been made to end the season as the top scorer in the league,” he said.
Musa and his teammates will first try to steady the ship in the league following a patchy spell that has seen the club concede five goals, score none and lost two of their last three league games.
A thrilling 3-2 win over Czech champions, Viktoria Plzen in mid-week should rouse spirits within the ranks as CSKA welcome Dinamo Moscow to the Stadion Lokomotiv on match day 12 of the Premier League.
Musa will be looking to return to goalscoring form if he is selected to start by the CSKA trainer, Leonid Slutsky on Sunday.
CSKA currently sit in fourth place on the league standings with 21 points from 11 matches.
