Algerian ref set for Devils and Pirates

Algerian referee Haimoudi Djamel is excited at being picked to handle the big game between the Orlando Pirates and Al Ahly in the first leg of the African Champions League.
“ It’s a big honor for me to handle this match. I know how important it is and I will do my best to make it a good match for African football ”Djamel told supersport.com.
“ We want to make African football proud so I am hoping all the players and the fans help me to make the final a success” Djamel added.


Djamel was born in Oran in 1970 and he has been a FIFA listed international referee since 2004.
He was the referee at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations as well as the 2011 FIF U-20 World Cup. He has also refereed a number of CAF Champions League matches, as well as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In December 2012, he was selected by the CAF as the African Referee of the Year at the 2012 CAF Awards in Accra, Ghana where he was appointed as the referee of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Final between Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
Haimoudi is the only referee to handle three finals of the African Champions League in 2008 , 2012 and 2013. This will be his fourth.
The second leg between Al Ahly and Orlando will be manged by Bakary Gassama from Gambia.
