Celtic’s
Efe Ambrose has hailed the Scottish club’s 2-1 defeat of Dutch giants
Ajax in their UEFA Champions League match on Tuesday.
Super Eagles defender Ambrose, who
played for 90 minutes in the encounter, which earned the Scottish double
champions their first three points in the competition, said the team
were desperate for victory.
“We were desperately in need of the
three points as we lost our first two games, that was the motivation we
needed to earn the victory. It was a good game,” Ambrose told MTNFootball.com.
Celtic are third in Group H on three
points from three games behind Barcelona and AC Milan on seven points
and five points, respectively.
And Ambrose said he believes Tuesday’s
win had brightened Celtic’s chances of progressing to the knockout
stage of the competition.
“The game against Ajax was very
important because that is one of the games that could take us through to
the knock out stage,” he said.
“For us, we would continue to put in all
our efforts and take our chances as they come because if we cannot
convert our chances at the end, we can’t score.
“We are a team that creates lots of
chances but we have not been able to make them count and that has been
our major challenge so far in the league.”
