Look Towards Self-Employment, Amaechi Advises Ex-Corps Members

 

GOV. CHIBUIKE AMAECHI OF RIVERS INSPECTING A GUARD OF HONOUR AT THE PASSING OUT CEREMONY OF NYSC BATCH ‘C’ CORPS MEMBERS IN PORT HARCOURT ON THURSDAY

Gov. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has advised the 3,431 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who served in the state to strive to be self-employed.

Amaechi gave the advice in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Thursday at the passing out ceremony of the 2012 Batch ‘C’ corps members.
“As you are now faced with the task of seeking gainful employment, I advise you to nurture and apply yourselves to the practical lessons of self-employment,’’ he said.
Amaechi urged them to apply the skills they acquired during the skills acquisition and entrepreneurial development programme.
The governor noted that self-reliance would contribute to the fight against unemployment in the country.

He commended the corps members for their contributions to the state through community development services.
He commended them for assisting the government in the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS, mass literacy programme and healthcare delivery.
Amaechi also commended 23 corps members who distinguished themselves by winning awards for outstanding performance.
The governor, however, said 22 members would face disciplinary measures for gross misconduct, saying it was in accordance with the NYSC by-laws.
Five members of the batch died during the service year. (NAN)
