Loew mulls Weidenfeller call-up

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller could be set for a first ever call-up to the German squad for next month's friendly internationals, coach Joachim Loew hinted on Sunday.
Having qualified for next year's World Cup finals in Brazil with a 3-0 win over Republic of Ireland in Cologne, Germany play their final World Cup qualifier against Sweden in Stockholm on Tuesday.
The German Football Federation (DFB) plan two friendlies in November against Italy in Milan on November 15, while a possible meeting with England four days later has yet to be confirmed.


Loew has said he will use the games to consider his options with regard to blooding new players, including 33-year-old Weidenfeller, who helped Borussia reach last season's Champions League final.
"We will consider it. Both games are against attractive opponents and we want to give one or two their chance to play against them," Loew told German daily Bild.
"We have been watching Roman Weidenfeller for quite some time and we know about his outstanding performances, so he is definitely a consideration."

Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer has been Loew's first choice since prior to the 2010 World Cup, while Hamburg's Rene Adler and Hanover 96's Ron-Robert Zieler have also been called up for recent matches.
Weidenfeller, capped at Under-21 level, has criticised Loew in the past for overlooking him, despite a string of good performances when Dortmund won back-to-back league titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
