Ethiopia has been dealt a huge blow in the run up to the World Cup play off against African champions Nigeria after prolific striker Getaneh Kebede was ruled out due to a nagging ankle injury.
Kebede will miss the game to be played on Sunday in Addis Ababa safter failing to shake off the injury. He also missed the match against Central Africa Republic after he injured his ankle just a day before the game.
He has not been training with his South African club Bidvest Wits after coach Gavin Hunt allowed him to stay out of training with the first team. Instead, he has been undergoing physiotherapy and also working out in the gym.
"It really a big blow that Getaneh will be once again missed against Nigeria. He has been very optimistic to play but seemingly the injury has failed to heal on time. We really feel for him since he has been an important player for us and we know how much he wanted to play."
Against CAR ,Omod Okwury started in Getaneh's place partnering Salhadin Said who earlier in the day arrived in camp.
Getaneh last scored against South Africa in June in Addis Ababa and has been in red hot form for both club and country having scored four goals so far for Wits.
