The
Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State on Wednesday alleged that the
administration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole had received over N400bn
since it assumed office in 2008 and collected loans worth billions of
naira, but had not been able to justify what the funds were used for.
Addressing a press conference at the
party’s state secretariat in Benin, Edo PDP chairman, Chief Dan Orbih,
described, Tuesday’s fifth year anniversary celebration of Oshiomhole as
self-aggrandizement and not worthy of celebration.
But the state Commissioner for
Information and Orientation, Louis Odion, said PDP was never happy with
anything that touched the lives of the people of the state positively.
Odion said he would be surprised if PDP
members were to be happy “when the good people of Edo State and indeed
all lovers of democracy gathered in Benin City to celebrate the fifth
anniversary of the liberation of Edo people by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole
from the toxic bondage of the PDP.”
However, Orbih, while carpeting the
Oshiomhole-led administration, accused it of trying to embroil the
judiciary in partisan politics, a move he said would spell doom for
democracy.
He said, “Governor Adams Oshiomhole
administration has collected over N400bn since 2008. This is apart from
the N33.4bn he has collected in five years as the cost of running
government. Oshiomhole has collected N19bn as security votes alone.
“What is on ground to show for all these
monies? Oshiomhole has spent N47bn on drainages alone. He also went to
the capital market to raise money for the Benin Storm Water Project.
However, it is difficult to move from one point to another anytime it
raiins in the state.”
