A complicated procedure for Monday’s Telkom Knockout draw has been revealed by the Premier Soccer League because there will be seeding for the process but there is still one more tie to be played.
The draw, which is being held at the SuperSport studios and will be televised live on SS4 at 8pm, comes ahead of the Mpumalanga Black Aces against Orlando Pirates match on Tuesday.
The league says it is hosting the draw on Monday rather than Wednesday to maximize the amount of time available for arranging the venues, dates and times of the matches and making all the necessary arrangements.

“In an unseeded draw we would simply have a draw a slip showing Orlando Pirates / MP Black Aces, and the winning team would go through to the next round as drawn,” explained Derek Blankensee in a memo sent to the participating clubs on Monday.
“This particular round of the Telkom Knockout is however seeded, meaning that the highest finishing four teams from last year’s Absa Premiership are kept separate from the remaining four teams.”
If means that if Aces beat Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday (live on SS4 kick off 7.30pm), the four seeded clubs would be Kaizer Chiefs, Platinum Stars, SuperSport United and Free State Stars.
But if Pirates win, they will be seeded along with Chiefs, Platinum Stars ands SuperSport United.
The league said it would still hold a single draw with the draw slips separated into two pots;
The first (seeded pot) would have the names of Chiefs, Platinum Stars, SuperSport and a slip Orlando Pirates/Free State Stars
The second (unseeded pot) has the names Lamontville, Golden Arrows, Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns and MP Black Aces/Free State Stars.
Once the Aces-Pirates match is completed on Tuesday and the winner known, the following will occur, said the PSL:
“ We will delete the name of the losing team out of Orlando Pirates or MP Black Aces on the one draw slip, leaving Free State Stars to play as drawn. On the other draw slip we will delete the name of Free State Stars and retain the name of the winner of the outstanding match to play as drawn.”
