Kompany injury blow for Belgium

Football | World Cup 2014

Belgium skipper Vincent Kompany has been ruled out of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers after suffering a thigh strain, his club Manchester City confirmed on Monday.
The 27-year-ol central defender picked up the injury in his side's 3-1 Premier League win over Everton on Saturday.
Kompany, who limped off during the first half at the Etihad Stadium, underwent a scan on Monday which confirmed the injury but the club have not said how long he will be out for.

Kompany will miss Belgium's World Cup qualifiers with Croatia – where a win for the Belgians would see them reach their first World Cup finals since 2002 – on Friday and Wales on next Tuesday.
Belgium top Group A with 22 points, five points ahead of Croatia with Wales bottom of the group which also includes Serbia, Scotland and Macedonia.
