A
22-year-old man, Terkimbi Anongo, has been arraigned before an Ebute
Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly being found in possession of
materials for police uniform.
The police said Anongo was caught with the items at Oyingbo area of Lagos during a search.
They added that a further search of the defendant revealed he was also carrying Indian hemp in a bag.
He allegedly could not provide any satisfactory explanation.
He was subsequently arrested and arraigned on one count of unlawful possession.
The charge read, “That you, Terkimbi
Anongo, on the 22 September, 2013 at about 7.40pm at Oyingbo bus stop,
Ebute Meta, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully
have in your possession one superior police officer sky blue uniform
shirt, a pair of police badge rank, one superior officer lang yard, with
whistle, seven pieces of police button and two wrapped dried leaf
suspected to be Indian hemp.”
The prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy,
said the defendant had committed an offence punishable under Section
328(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The suspect pleaded not guilty, but did not have any legal representation to defend him in the matter.
The Magistrate, Mr. O.O Olatunji, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50,000 with “one responsible surety in like sum.”
The matter was adjourned till November 20.
